A phone that will not charge is not always a dead battery. Very often the problem is the charging port: lint packed inside, a bent pin, corrosion, or a port that has worn loose. We diagnose and fix charging problems at our shop on Mentor Ave in Mentor, OH.
Signs of a charging port problem
- The phone only charges when the cable is held at an angle
- The cable feels loose or falls out
- Charging starts and stops, or is very slow
- You see "Accessory not supported" or a moisture warning when nothing is wet
- The phone will not connect to a computer or car
Sometimes it only needs a cleaning
Pocket lint gets pressed into the port every time you plug in, until the cable can no longer seat fully. We check for that first. If a careful cleaning solves it, we will tell you, and you will not need a new port. Please do not dig into the port with a pin or a paperclip, since that can bend the contacts and turn a cleaning into a repair.
When the port needs replacing
If the port is damaged, corroded or worn, we replace it. On many phones the port sits on a separate flex cable; on others it is soldered to the board. Either way we tell you what your device needs and the price before we begin.

Questions we hear often
Could it be my cable or charger?
It can be. Try a different cable and power adapter first. If the problem stays with the phone, bring it in, along with the cable you normally use, and we will test both.
My phone got wet and now it will not charge. What should I do?
Unplug it, turn it off and do not charge it until it is checked. Rice does not dry the inside of a phone. Bring it in as soon as you can, since corrosion gets worse with time.
Will you need to keep my phone for long?
It depends on the phone and the parts. We will give you a time estimate when you drop it off.
